Lung Cancer Basics
It takes very few cigarettes to increase your risk of lung cancer
Everyone knows smoking causes lung cancer. But you may be surprised to find out how few cigarettes it takes to increase your risk. Doctors say any smoking causes damage, even if a person quit a long time ago. In fact, government researchers define a former smoker as someone who smoked at least a hundred cigarettes in their lifetime. Over 172,000 people are diagnosed with lung cancer every year in the U.S. Over 160, 000 die.
