People often use over-the- counter heartburn medicines, even when on prescription therapy for acid reflux
Many people treated for gastroesophogeal reflux disease (GERD) experience heartburn even though they are taking an acid blocker medicine everyday. "Acid breakthrough" occurs when heartburn medications fail to bring relief under certain conditions. H2 blockers and antacids are commonly used to treat "breakthrough" while a person is taking a proton pump inhibitor, including prescription formulations.
