Water and sports drinks are both good for runners, but sports drinks may be better for going the distance.
It is generally recommended that water should be used during any exercise period that is less than forty minutes. Sports drinks are recommended for any exercise period over 40 minutes, as they have added electrolytes and sugar in them to help maintain your body energy.
